The present-day U.S. military qualifies by any measure as highly professional, much more so than its Cold War predecessor. Yet the purpose of today’s professionals is not to preserve peace but to fight unending wars in distant places. Intoxicated by a post-Cold War belief in its own omnipotence, the United States allowed itself to be drawn into a long series of armed conflicts, almost all of them yielding unintended consequences and imposing greater than anticipated costs. Since the end of the Cold War, U.S. forces have destroyed many targets and killed many people. Only rarely, however, have they succeeded in accomplishing their assigned political purposes. . . . [F]rom our present vantage point, it becomes apparent that the “Revolution of ‘89” did not initiate a new era of history. At most, the events of that year fostered various unhelpful illusions that impeded our capacity to recognize and respond to the forces of change that actually matter.

Well Floda, it's a long story but basically, there has been a schism. This is where the original set of editors are now posting, others have gone their separate way. Glad you found us here.

I'm glad I tracked you down, too. This site, with astounding diligence, compiles the scope and degree of violence and craziness throughout Iraq that appears nowhere else on the web.
I wonder how long the U.S. public would stand for the continuing occupation of Iraq if your compilation appeared daily in a boxed story on the front page of just one MSM newspaper.

What a shame to see such a valuable effort fall apart, and especially after Mark put so much work into creating the new site. Thankfully, it appears that it will continue here. Unfortunately, I do not have in any day the 2-6 hours required to put together a full post. I do see a lot of information each day, though, and perhaps I can contribute by sending links, and occasional commentary to the people who do post. Please let me know if that would be useful. I will also continue to contribute to the comment section whenever I have time and something to say that I think is worth sharing.
